Kitāb al-Aghāni

(Book of Songs)
   One of the most famous works in Arab literature, a 21-volume compendium of poems from pre-Islamic times to the ninth century compiled by Abū’l-Faradj al-Isfahāni (897, Persia–967, Baghdad). The melody of each poem is classified by its melodic and rhythmic mode and its origin.
